The vast majority of HIV infections among gay men are from bareback sex. Before deciding whether to use a condom, you should know and weigh the risks.
Being fucked bareback is a much riskier activity than fucking bareback. Bareback bottoms are also 400% more likely to become HIV infected than bottoms fucked with a condom (“Per Contact Risk of HIV Transmission,” 1998).
The safest way to avoid HIV infection as a top or a bottom is to wear a condom and use a water-based lubricant, which prevents the condom from breaking.
Although topping bareback is less risky than being the bottom, you are still at a much higher risk of being infected from barebacking than from wearing a condom. And again, 400% more likely to infect your partner.
